A full day seminar presented by Paul Litwin, Deep Training. This workshop is being coordinated by Dr. En Mao, Assistant Professor of Management Information systems at the School of Business Administration, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Overview
ASP.NET JumpStart: Notepad vs. Visual Studio .NET This full-day workshop will tell you just about everything you need to know to get started building ASP.NET applications using a plain old text editor or Visual Studio .NET.
In the first part of this workshop, youll explore creating ASP.NET pages using nothing more than a text editor and the .NET Framework command-line tools. Youll dig into creating Web pages using ASP.NET controls, learning about the HTML and Web Server controls, including the list controls and the validation controls. Youll explore data binding and ADO.NET. Youll investigate the exciting new world of Web Services and learn how to both build and consume Web Services using ASP.NET. This first part of the workshop will prove invaluable even if you are planning to use Visual Studio .NET for your development because youll leave with a better understanding of how things work under the covers.
In the second part of this workshop, youll see how to create ASP.NET applications using Visual Studio .NET and explore the advantages of using Visual Studio .NET over a text editor. Youll see how to create ASP.NET pages (or Web Forms) using the IDE and drag and drop. Youll learn how VS .NET makes it easy to separate code from content. Youll explore how to create Web Services and Web Service clients using VS .NET. Youll also see how to use the VS .NET debugger to root out those pesky bugs. When youre done with the workshop youll be ready to start coding ASP.NET applications and decide for yourself whether to use a text editor or Visual Studio .NET. Even if your mind is already made up, youll gain from seeing how things are done the "other" way.
